Why Anti Gravity Chairs? These innovative outdoor loungers recline you into a weightless position, reducing pressure on your spine and improving circulation. Whether you're reading, napping, or stargazing, an anti gravity chair delivers unmatched comfort on your patio, deck, or campsite.

What Are Anti Gravity Outdoor Lounge Chairs?

An anti gravity outdoor lounge chair — also known as a zero gravity chair — is a reclining seat designed to elevate your legs above your heart while supporting your back at a carefully engineered angle. This posture, derived from NASA research on astronaut comfort during launch, minimizes stress on the body and creates a sensation of weightlessness.

Unlike standard patio chairs, these loungers feature a smooth recline mechanism that locks into virtually any position. Most models are built with a powder-coated steel or aluminum frame, breathable mesh fabric, and a removable headrest pillow. The result is a durable, weather-resistant chair that's as functional at a campsite as it is beside a backyard pool.

For those who want to upgrade their entire relaxation setup, pairing an anti gravity chair with a reclining patio swing with canopy can create a versatile outdoor lounging zone. And if you're furnishing a smaller space, consider how these chairs complement reclining couches for small spaces indoors.

Key Features to Look For in a Zero Gravity Patio Recliner

Not all anti gravity chairs are created equal. Before you buy, evaluate these critical features:

1. Frame Material & Weight Capacity

The frame determines durability and portability. Aluminum models are lightweight and rust-resistant, making them ideal for frequent movers. Steel frames are heavier but often more affordable. Always check the weight capacity — most standard chairs support 250–300 lbs, while heavy-duty options handle 400 lbs or more. If you need extra support, look for a heavy-duty power recliner rated for 400 lbs for indoor use, or a reinforced outdoor model.

2. Fabric & Weather Resistance

Look for UV-resistant, breathable mesh or textilene fabric. These materials dry quickly, resist fading, and stay cool in the sun. Cheaper chairs may use low-grade fabric that cracks within a season. If you plan to leave your chair outside year-round, consider a model with a zero gravity lounge chair cushion for added comfort and protection.

3. Reclining Mechanism

Most anti gravity chairs use a simple locking lever or tension knob. Test the mechanism if possible — it should glide smoothly and lock securely. Some premium models feature an infinite-position recline, while others offer a limited range. For a more advanced indoor option, explore a recliner with push button controls.

4. Portability & Storage

If you plan to take your chair camping or to the beach, weight and folded dimensions matter. The lightest weight zero gravity chair models weigh under 15 lbs and fold flat for easy transport. A carry bag is a nice bonus.

5. Accessories

Many chairs include a headrest pillow, cup holder, and side tray. An anti gravity chair with cup holder keeps your drink secure while you relax. You can also buy a cup holder for zero gravity chair separately if your model lacks one.
